Repeating Wix Watermarks: Spacing, Size and Angle

A repeating mark spreads ownership information across a photograph. A dense, dark pattern can also hide the product you want visitors to examine.

Quick answer and first checks

Balance size and spacing on the same photo before comparing angle and opacity. Check landscape, portrait and square images. A repeating pattern still does not eliminate every cropping or copying route.

  • Begin with size and spacing
  • Compare angle and opacity one at a time
  • Keep product details visible on mobile

Quick answer

Keep the pattern small but readable, adjust spacing to the image size, and test a diagonal angle of around 30–45 degrees across different aspect ratios.

1. When does a repeating watermark make sense?

A single corner logo can easily disappear when product photos are frequently shared, cropped or moved to other platforms. A repeating pattern spreads the ownership mark across a larger area.

This level of protection is often unnecessary for decorative website images, however.

2. Set the right repeat spacing

If watermarks are too close together, the pattern overwhelms the photo; if too far apart, the gaps may allow cropping. Assess spacing at the actual display size rather than in a small preview.

Check how the same spacing behaves on square, landscape and portrait images.

3. Choose the rotation angle for the composition

A diagonal pattern can feel less like a stripe than a horizontal or vertical one and may remain more balanced across different crops.

Choose the angle for brand legibility and compatibility with the image's main lines, rather than aesthetics alone.

4. Consider opacity and pattern density together

Opacity that is acceptable for one watermark may feel overwhelming when repeated dozens of times. You may need to reduce opacity as the number of marks increases.

Test the same setting on light and dark products to find a suitable balance.

5. Check pattern density on mobile

The same pattern looks denser on a small screen. Make sure photo details remain visible, particularly in the product gallery.

Test mobile image quality on actual product detail pages, not just the homepage.

6. Tiled or repeated placement with Filigrunner

Filigrunner's repeated placement options let you adjust size, spacing, rotation and opacity in one dashboard and check them in the live preview.

Limiting coverage to products or extending it to all website images is a separate decision. Choose pattern density to suit that scope.

Frequently asked questions

Is a repeating watermark more secure than a single logo?

It is generally harder to remove entirely by cropping, but no image-protection method can completely prevent copying online.

How much spacing should there be between watermarks?

There is no universal value. Test on the actual page according to image size, logo dimensions and product detail.

Does a watermark have to be diagonal?

No. A diagonal layout is common, but a straight layout or another angle may suit the brand design and image composition better.
