Can Wix Block Screenshots? Limits of Image Protection

Restricting a right click is different from controlling a phone’s screenshot buttons. Learn what website measures can do and where their control ends.

Quick answer and first checks

An ordinary web page cannot control every operating-system screenshot method. Watermarks and supported browser restrictions may deter copying; they are not a universal block. Choose measures with that limitation and the visitor’s viewing experience in mind.

  • Distinguish right-click from screenshot capture
  • Keep important details visible under the mark
  • Do not generalise from a test on one device

Quick answer

A web page cannot reliably prevent screenshots on every device. Deterrents can be added in supported environments; the most dependable approach is layered protection combining watermarks and appropriate image coverage.

1. Why are screenshots a different problem?

Right-clicking is a browser event within the page. Screenshots can be taken using Windows, macOS, iOS or Android shortcuts and system interfaces.

A web page does not have full control over the operating system, so there is no universal blocking mechanism.

2. What are the limitations on desktop?

Print Screen, screen capture tools and third-party software can operate outside the page's control. Browser-based measures cannot stop all these tools.

On desktop, the goal is therefore to make unauthorised use of a valuable image less appealing, rather than making it impossible.

3. What happens on iPhone and Android?

Mobile operating systems manage screenshot behaviour themselves. A normal web page does not have access to some of the secure-screen APIs available to native apps.

Behaviour can differ between phone and browser versions, so a test on one device should not be treated as universal evidence.

4. What can a website do?

Watermarks, visible ownership marks and warning or deterrence layers can be applied for some supported browser behaviours. These may make screenshots less useful, but they are not a guarantee.

Avoid aggressive measures that excessively disrupt the user experience, particularly for non-sensitive commercial images.

5. Set realistic expectations

Instead of an absolute claim such as “completely blocks screenshots”, use more accurate wording such as “discourages screenshots” or “helps restrict them in supported environments”.

This keeps both the product description and visitor expectations realistic.

6. Screenshot deterrence in Filigrunner

Filigrunner’s product page covers watermarking, right-click controls and screenshot deterrence. Confirm the behaviour supported by your installed version using the product information and support channel.

A warning or dimmed view on one device does not establish that screenshots are blocked on others. Record the browser, device and actual output. Reconsider a setting if it interferes with menus or forms.

No. A website cannot control screenshot mechanisms across all operating systems and devices.

Can screenshots be blocked on an iPhone?

A normal web page cannot universally disable iOS screenshot behaviour.

Can screenshot deterrence still be useful?

It can discourage screenshots in some supported browser scenarios, but it works best alongside watermarks and other image-protection layers.
