Prepare a Transparent PNG Logo for Wix Watermarks

White backgrounds or excess padding can change the appearance of a watermark. First check that the uploaded logo copy is genuinely transparent.

Quick answer and first checks

Preserve the original brand file and prepare a separate PNG copy. Check transparency against a checkerboard and sharpness at the actual display size. Reducing opacity in both the file and app can make the mark fainter than intended.

  • Distinguish transparency from a white background
  • Review padding and edge sharpness
  • Consider file and app opacity together

This guide addresses a real problem rather than listing features. Test the steps in your own Wix editor and published website; interface options may change over time.

01

Export the logo file correctly

Where possible, use the original source file from your design application. Export a PNG with a transparent background; a white logo on a white canvas is not transparent. Avoid excessive transparent margins, which can make the watermark's visible portion smaller than expected.

02

Resolution and sharpness

Enlarging a small logo can cause pixelation. Preserve its original proportions and export at a reasonably higher resolution than its intended display size. Unnecessarily large files make uploading, storage and management harder. Measure the page's image performance as well.

03

Test on light and dark backgrounds

A dark logo may be more readable on a light background, and a light logo on a dark one. If your products have different backgrounds, a single-colour brand mark may not look consistent on every image. First test it on three product photos: one white, one dark and one patterned.

04

Opacity: the file or the dashboard?

Reducing the source file's alpha too far and then lowering opacity in the app can make the mark excessively faint. It is generally more flexible to prepare a clear logo on a transparent background and control visibility where it is used. A small centred mark and a subtle repeated pattern may need different opacity settings.

05

Spacing in diagonal and repeated layouts

Diagonal repetition of square logos can feel different from repeated horizontal logos. To avoid a cramped texture around the brand, start with wider spacing and lower visual density. Assess the layout's legibility separately on a small screen.

06

A quick pre-launch check

Is the file really a PNG? Is its background genuinely transparent? Are margins trimmed? Does the logo cover important product details? Is it sharp enough on mobile? Complete these checks before applying the watermark across the site to reduce rework.
