Quick answer and first checks
Open the wa.me URL independently of the button first. Use international digits only and URL-encode a suggested message. If that link works, check the button destination, overlapping layers and publication state.
- Test the link directly in a browser
- Check number and suggested message separately
- Compare the working link with the live button
This guide addresses a real problem rather than listing features. Test the steps in your own Wix editor and published website; interface options may change over time.
1. Check the phone number in international format
For a WhatsApp wa.me link, use the phone number including its country code, without spaces or special characters. For Turkey, replace the leading 0 in a number such as 0536… with international format beginning with country code 90. Example format: https://wa.me/905xxxxxxxxx. Replace the example with your own business number.
2. Open the link separately from the button
If nothing happens when the button is pressed, first paste its destination URL into the browser address bar. If the same error occurs there, the button design is not the cause. Whether WhatsApp is installed, browser redirect prompts and device behaviour can also affect opening the link.
3. Add the pre-filled message to the URL correctly
Messages containing spaces, Turkish characters or an ampersand must be URL-encoded. For example: ?text=Hello%2C%20I%20would%20like%20more%20information. Adding a message as raw text directly to a web address can break some links.
4. Is another layer covering the button on mobile?
Fixed contact buttons can sit beneath cookie notices, bottom navigation or another floating widget. Test the clickable area in the lower corner of the screen; do not increase z-index values or mobile safe-area spacing unnecessarily.
5. Opening hours and visibility rules
If your app supports visibility by opening hours or page, the button may be intentionally hidden in some places. Verify activation settings separately for product pages, blog articles and mobile views.
6. Republish the site and try a private tab
Seeing a setting in the editor does not necessarily mean it is live. Check the save and publication process, then test the same page in a private window and on another device.
7. Are several WhatsApp buttons conflicting?
If you added both a manual link and a second contact app, overlapping widgets can be confusing. Choose one primary contact point. Converly offers an alternative for configuring WhatsApp, phone, email and other contact channels centrally.
